BroadPoint Federal Implementation of Oracle Warehouse Management System (WMS) Provides Efficiencies in Inventory Storage and Real-Time Stock Transaction Management

BroadPoint Federal (BroadPoint) introduced significant efficiencies in inventory storage and real-time stock transaction management by implementing the Oracle Warehouse Management System (WMS) for the Government Publishing Office (GPO). GPO produces and distributes information products and services for all three branches of the Federal Government, including U.S. passports and official publications of Congress, the White House, and other Federal agencies in digital and print formats.

Prior to BroadPoint’s implementation of Oracle WMS in 2019, which leveraged Oracle Mobile Supply Chain Applications (MSCA), GPO manually managed warehouse operations and data entry, resulting in delayed processing and decision making and preventing accurate analyses. BroadPoint’s implementation of Oracle WMS provided a breakthrough automated solution capable of eliminating paper-based capture, which helped GPO achieve business and IT value, manage its inventory storage capacity, plan purchases more effectively, improve warehouse efficiency and space utilization, and reduce manual errors in warehouse operations through real-time stock transaction management.

BroadPoint supported all phases of the system development lifecycle (SDLC), including planning, design, development, testing, training, deployment, and post-production support. BroadPoint integrated the Oracle Inventory module with Oracle Project Costing to reduce budget errors and provide accurate billing through GPO’s financial system. We delivered a solution to clear old orders and receiving transactions. And we worked with GPO network and security teams to connect hand-held and mobile devices (e.g., RF scanners, label printers) to the GPO network without compromising security. Our training and support included GPO usage of Oracle WMS, mobile scanners, and label printers to requisition, receive and move materials, record inventory, and conduct cycle count operations.

The full implementation was successfully completed in less than 8 months with little interruption to ongoing GPO processes. As a result of BroadPoint’s implementation of Oracle WMS, GPO has realized the following benefits:

 Operational Efficiency and Accuracy

  • Eliminated Manual, Paper-Based Processes - Replaced manual warehouse management and data entry with an automated system.

  • Reduced Manual Errors - Real-time stock transaction management significantly decreased mistakes in warehouse operations.

  • Improved Warehouse Efficiency - Streamlined processes for requisitioning, receiving, moving materials, recording inventory, and conducting cycle counts.

  • Real-Time Decision Making - Provided immediate access to data, eliminating delays in processing and enabling faster, more informed decisions.

  • Optimized Resource Usage - Maximized the use of labor and equipment (e.g., iPhone, RF scanners, label printers).

  • Enhanced Space Utilization - Improved management of inventory storage capacity and overall warehouse space.

  • Cleared Legacy Transactions - Resolved and cleared old orders and receiving transactions.

Financial and Strategic Value

  • More Effective Purchase Planning - Provided improved planning of inventory purchases through the provision of accurate and timely data.

  • Maximized Investments – Maximized labor and space utilization and equipment investments by coordinating and optimizing resource usage and material flows.

  • Accurate Analyses - Enabled precise analysis of warehouse operations.
